The orchestra really came through today for our 6th Annual Fall Concert. Our three soloists performed admirably. The audience was great and all the pieces went well. Our next performance will be for the spring concert on June 4th.
The NACO Woodwind Quintet was featured today at St. Mark's Episcopal Church as part of the Now Playing Newport Concert Series. The quintet played an eclectic assortment of music spanning several centuries, from Locatelli to Milhaud. The audience was treated to a wonderful program and I was very proud of the musicians.
The orchestra began its fall rehearsals on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the First Universalist Parish in Derby Line. We are currently having string rehearsals with the woodwinds joining us on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. The brass and percussion sections will join us on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. We are preparing for our 5th annual fall concert to be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the United Church in Newport, VT. Please mark this date on your calendars and we hope to see you in the audience.
On Sunday, September 4, 2016, the FUP Ensemble played for the First Universalist Parishes "Welcome Back" service. We had seven musicians play for the service along with Janice Luce (keyboard) and David Harrison (Vocalist). The music included a mixed match of music from several different musical eras and ended with the Red River Valley with Janice and David joining the group. Our next performance will be for the annual Christmas service to be held on Sunday, December 18, 2016.
The ensemble sounded great for today's "Recognition Day" service. We played arrangements by Chris Maginniss and played "Thank You Very Much" from the musical "Scrooge" accompanied by vocalists The Reverend Susan-Lynn Johns and Melanie Pudvah. All-in-all, a wonderful service to end the regular church season.
Our 5th Annual Spring Concert today at the United Church in Newport was a tremendous success! At the end of the program, the audience gave us a rousing standing ovation that was just crying out for an encore number. I guess we will have to find one for our future concerts.
